Olivia Burton, 23, moves to California with her boyfriend, 24-year-old Francis Morales, defying the wishes of their respective family members. Francis’ mother, Lillian, is a devout Catholic who disapproves of her son’s cohabitation and expresses her feelings in the form of violent, religiously motivated postcards. Despite these objections, the young lovers settle into their new, exciting life together. However, their happiness is interrupted when Francis is physically and mentally injured after a bizarre accident. He soon suffers from night terrors – he whispers in his sleep to a figure Olivia cannot see and sleepwalks to strange corners of the house. These episodes frighten Olivia and also make him suspect that Francis is hiding something from her. Their investigation leads to a terrifying and perverse discovery: they are haunted by the ghost of Francis’ childhood youth pastor – a being enraged by their coexistence and come to punish them for their sins.
